   Fly Ash

Air Pollution Control Residues comprise between 3% and 5% by weight of what goes into a incinerator.

These are a mixture of fly ash, and the carbon and lime used to clean the incinerator flue gases. Any toxic material removed from the flue gases will end up in these residues.

Around 300,000 tonnes of toxic fly ash will be produced from the Four Ashes incinerator.

In the Staffordshire County Council 'Zero Waste to Landfill by 2020' document the fly ash isn't mentioned. It is classed as hazardous waste and must be disposed of at licensed landfill sites.
